Thunder Rock Cove, Brookings OR
As part of Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor in Brookings, Oregon, Thunder Rock Cove is a peninsula rock formation protruding out from the central Oregon coast. Navigating through the 0.8 mile trail, you'll find yourself directly on top of the water looking out at a 200+ degree unobstructed view of the ocean. Thunder Rock Cove stands tall at about 200 feet above the Pacific Ocean, giving you plenty of visibility.
To no surprise that Thunder Rock Cove gets its name due to its sound. As the waves come crashing in they wrap around the cliff, creating a back pressure that forces air up the sides of the rock. The resulting sound resembles the natural sounds of a thunderstorm.
